A clean and organized home can help you stay focused and at ease. If you’re like me, it’s difficult to concentrate when things are messy or out of place.

When I was younger, I didn’t really care about keeping things organized at home. I guess I owe it to my mother that our house always looked neat and tidy, as if it was ready to be photographed for a real estate agent’s portfolio.

My mother taught me numerous helpful tips, including the most effective ways to utilize the small cupboards found above refrigerators in many kitchens. If you have these cupboards too, continue reading to discover how to make the most of them.

Upon initial inspection, the compact cabinets situated above the refrigerator may not appear to have much utility.

They are too small for certain things, and it is not practical to have plates or cups placed so high.

So, what to do with them?

If you’re unsure about what to do with these cupboards, we’re here to offer some clever suggestions and techniques.

Storage space for infrequently used kitchen gadgets:

These cabinets may not be suitable for items you use daily, but they can still store appliances like food processors, blenders, and waffle makers that are only used occasionally.

Canned products and baking essentials

Canned food and produce can last a long time, so it’s fine if you store them away and forget about them. What about baking ingredients that you only need occasionally?

Cookbooks

I have some cookbooks that I don’t want anymore. Instead of leaving them lying around, I use the top compartment of my cupboard to store them.

Pantry items and spices

Just like we mentioned earlier about canned foods, there are probably things in your pantry that can fit well in that cupboard. Alternatively, you could think about getting a small spice rack to store your cooking spices up there.

Kitchen towels

You can keep household items like kitchen towels that you purchase in large quantities (my wife always does) in this storage space.

Fine china

Have some plates or cutlery just for special occasions? Storing them above the fridge might be a good idea to keep them out of reach of children!

Be careful

It’s important to be cautious when opening and closing cupboards. If you’re taking things from there, ensure they are not too heavy to safely put back down.

Make sure to use a strong stool or step ladder when reaching for items stored up high, and remember that the heat from the fridge below may not be suitable for all products.
