Gloria Frances Stewart was born on July 4, 1910, in Santa Monica, California and adopted the pseudonym Gloria Stuart. This actress began her career after performing in some university plays while studying at the University of Berkeley, California. In 1930, she abandoned her studies to live with her husband and sculptor Blair Gordon Newell in San Francisco.

Later the couple moved to Carmel, Arizona where the actress mixed with the artistic society and began acting in local theatres, at which time it was when she changed her last name to Stuart.

Her career really took off when she moved back to California to study Fine Arts at the Pasadena Playhouse where a producer from Universal discovered her and signed her for feature films.

During the 1930s, she began her career as an actress in the cinema, working with the horror filmmaker James Whale in films such as A Kiss Before the Looking Glass (1933), The Invisible Man (1933) and The House of Shadows (1932). . During the war years, Gloria Stuart knew she had to do something to help her country, so she toured it, entertaining troops in hospitals and help sell war bonds. At the war’s end, the actress decided to retire from the medium, so she opened a decoration shop and began to dedicate herself to painting.

After 30 years out of acting, Gloria Stuart searched for a new agent to get back into acting. In 1975 she acted in the series The Legend of Lizzie Borden and in 1982, in the movie My favourite year. After returning to acting, she opened Imprenta Glorias, a printing company.
