Live dress sprayed on Bella Hadid’s body at Paris Fashion Week

We are facing a new era in the fashion industry.

When we think of “fashion” we usually imagine fashion shows, with glamorous outfits and the new trends for the season. But we hardly ever associate fashion with science, technology and math. However, it is important to know that to create a simple skirt all three areas are needed, even if it seems that they have nothing to do with it.

Fashion Week in Paris is always a significant event where the new creations of renowned designers are shown. And with it, all the progress has been made to innovate and revolutionize clothing and the way it is presented on the market.

This time, the one who left everyone with their mouths open was the French brand Coperni, by making a dress in real time in front of all the spectators. As if it were a science fiction movie, the public could see how the professionals sprayed a dress on the body of the model Bella Hadid.

Before the astonished gaze of the entire world, Hadid had a custom-made dress in less than 15 minutes.

Coperni’s show took place at the Salle des Textiles of the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris on September 30 as part of its Spring Summer 2023 collection. And the star function was the fabrication of a white dress in real time on the body of the model.

A liquid spray made up of cotton fibers and a polymer that evaporates on contact with the skin was used. Thus, this paint-like substance turns into a cloth almost instantly on the person’s body. The incredible material was developed by the textile technology company Fabrican Ltd , founded in 2003 by Spanish scientist and fashion designer Manel Torres .

To close with a flourish, Bella Hadid entered the room wearing only underwear the color of her skin. She stepped onto a lighted platform and Fabrican’s team equipped with paint guns began spraying the liquid fabric. In just 15 minutes, the model had a beautiful white dress on her body.

Once they finished spraying the material, another person showed up to put the finishing touches on the garment. She outlined the edges of the straps and cut the skirt so the model could walk around and present the dress to everyone. Hadid made the catwalk as usual and without a doubt left everyone shocked.

The most impressive thing was to see how that liquid substance became a soft dress.

The doubt of many is if this garment can be used like any other that you buy in a store. And the answer is yes. The material is made up of fabric fibers that can be natural or synthetic, so when using this technology, a fabric is created around the body. And like many other fabrics, it can be washed and worn multiple times.

This could be the beginning of a revolution in the fashion industry and without a doubt, it has already changed the way we see clothes.

Coperni founders Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant mentioned that they chose Bella Hadid as their model for this issue because she is very interested in textile technology and has already been involved in experimental projects. It should be noted that Hadid, despite having many years of experience, felt very nervous because the number could not be previously rehearsed.

We’d like to thank @bellahadid for this beautiful experience that will live forever in our memories. I’m grateful for your support, love, and the most incredible performance. We all take great pride in the work we produced together. Without Manel Torres and his talent, none of this would have been possible. When style and technology collide,” Coperni stated in a post on his Instagram page.
