Here’s Why You Should Leave a Coin in the Freezer Before Leaving the House

I’m trying next time I leave home…

If you are considering going on a vacation and leaving food in the freezer, this is an article that you must overlook. Today, we are delighted to share with you a straightforward technique that will help you determine the safety of consuming the food you have stored in the freezer.

At times, while we are not at home, the electricity may go out without our knowledge. This situation can lead to the thawing and spoiling of food kept in the freezer.

A woman has devised a clever method to determine if our refrigerators are functioning optimally – using only a mug of water and a penny! This simple experiment ensures that we never have to be concerned about spoiled fruits or vegetables in our fridge.

Sheila Pulanco Russell came up with an innovative concept and showcased a refrigerator-mug experiment using plain tap water. This experiment is straightforward – if the penny freezes, it indicates that your refrigerator is functioning well in keeping your food items cold and frozen. On the other hand, if the penny does not freeze, it suggests that you may need to invest in a new fridge to avoid food spoilage. You can easily try this experiment at home today!

In a Facebook post that garnered an overwhelming number of reactions and shares, Sheila provides a detailed explanation on how to proceed. Her written instructions are as follows:

For individuals evacuating from the coast, I recently learned about a helpful suggestion known as the one cup tip. Simply freeze a cup of water until it solidifies, then place a quarter on top of it before leaving it in the freezer. This method allows you to determine upon your return whether your food thawed and refroze during the evacuation, or if it remained frozen in your absence.

If the quarter has sunk to the bottom of the cup, it indicates that all the food has thawed, and it is advisable to discard it. However, if the quarter is positioned either on the top or in the middle of the cup, there is a possibility that your food is still safe to consume. Additionally, keeping this tip in mind and leaving the quarter in your freezer at all times would be a wise decision. In the event of a power outage, you can rely on this advice.

If you are not satisfied with your meal, it is best to discard it. The priority is ensuring everyone’s safety. Kindly share this message on your social media page. 😊

If there is any doubt about the safety of food, it is best to discard it. Your health is, and always will be, the most important aspect of life.
