When movie critic Rex Reed criticized Melissa in a review of Identity Thief, calling her a “tractor-sized Melissa McCarthy” and a “gimmick comedian who has focused on being overweight and annoying in her short career,” her cousin Jenny McCarthy, who is an actress, model, and TV personality, defended her. Jenny told E! News, “That’s just rude. It’s not right to attack someone like that, it’s hurtful and doesn’t help anyone…” She also said, “She’s extremely talented and people recognize that, so…He can go away.”
