Brendan Fraser has been nominated for an Oscar and deserves it.

It is her first Academy Award nomination in her entire acting career.

One of the most important awards in cinema has already announced its nominees, and expectations are high. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced three days ago the candidates to take the golden statuette in its more than 20 categories.

One of the favourites to win the Best Actor award is Brendan Fraser for his performance in the film The Whale by director Darren Aronofsky. The 54-year-old actor has conquered critics thanks to his role as Charlie, a 550-pound man trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter after abandoning her to make a new life with his gay lover.

Charlie’s obesity problem originated after the death of his partner. Because he went into a severe depression, the man binged on food, leading him to weigh 600 pounds. However, Fraser had gained some weight in recent years, and to achieve the incredible transformation, he had to wear a prosthetic suit weighing several tens of kilos.

He was given a standing ovation of over 6 minutes for his work in this psychological drama at the Venice International Film Festival, where the movie made its debut in September 2022.

The Whale is Fraser’s stunning big-screen return. She expected to see him in Batgirl; however, Warner Bros. permanently cancelled the release, and the film will never see the light of day.

However, the world has eyes on Fraser and his Oscar nomination for Best Actor. However, there is doubt whether the actor will attend the ceremony due to a previous controversy with another award. Brendan was nominated in the same category at the Golden Globes, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), but did not attend. This is due to his dark past with Philip Berk, former president of the organization.

The actor denounced that in 2003, Berk improperly touched him; however, the Association determined that it had been a hoax. Despite Brendan’s insistence, the HFPA continued to deny it, and this caused him to disappear from the spotlight for several years. And when he found out about his nomination at the Golden Globes, Fraser decided not to attend because he assured that ” My mother did not raise a hypocrite .”

But everything seems to indicate that the protagonist of The Mummy will appear at the Oscars.

The Critic’s Choice Awards were recently held, where Fraser was also the winner in the Best Actor category. This time he attended the ceremony and gave an emotional speech. It should be noted that he also received the TIFF Tribute Awards for Performance (Tribute Award for Interpretation) for the same role. Likewise, he has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild and BAFTA Awards in the Best Actor category.

As for the Academy, other candidates to win the Oscar for best actor are Austin Butler, Collin Farrell, Bill Nighy and Paul Mescal. On March 12, 2023, the 95th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and we hope Fraser brings home the trophy because he richly deserves it.
