Mom ordered to cover herself up when breastfeeding

At first glance, it looks like a harmless photo of a woman breastfeeding her baby. Look closer, though, and you’ll see the hidden detail that led this picture to go viral.

Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful process that helps create intimacy and bonding between the mom and her bundle of joy.

It’s important for moms to know that they shouldn’t feel guilty about feeding their babies whenever and wherever they need to. Unfortunately, some people criticize them for breastfeeding in public without using a cover.

In 2018, Melanie Dudley, a mother with a 3-month-old baby, was at a restaurant with her family and friends. Her baby started crying for food, so she breastfed him without any hesitation. Despite everyone being okay with it, a stranger at the next table seemed uncomfortable with her not covering up while breastfeeding.

He approached Melanie and asked her to cover up. And well, she did just that, but in a manner that stranger expected.

Melanie shared with Yahoo that while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas with her family, a man requested her to cover up. She mentioned that she usually keeps things modest, but they were seated at the back of the restaurant.

The Texan informed TODAY that even though the cover was on, it became extremely hot. The temperature reached around 95 degrees, causing their little baby to sweat.

I exclaimed, “Guess what? I’m on holiday, I’m going to relax.”

Melanie grabbed the cover and placed it on her head, causing the whole restaurant to erupt in laughter.

The woman clarified that she simply placed it over her head without any particular reason. It wasn’t a scandalous argument or anything like that. That was just her way of responding. She couldn’t find the right words, so she decided to cover her head instead.

Carol Lockwood, a witness, snapped a picture of Melanie and posted it online with the message, “I don’t know her, but she’s AMAZING!!! (Please share! I’ve made this post public with her permission — I’m tired of women being criticized for breastfeeding!!!” Quickly, the photo spread like wildfire, reaching 225,000 shares and still increasing.

Melanie received support from a large group of people who stood by her and backed her actions.

We strongly believe that breastfeeding is completely natural and no mother should feel embarrassed about feeding her baby in public.
