An artist is using 50,000 lights to transform a desert into a magical and surreal fairytale.
Bruce Munro is a very successful British artist who is known for making big, impressive art with light. This project, part of a series called Field of Light, was done in the Australian outback near Uluru, which is a very important place in Australia. This installation has 50,000 light stems with frosted-glass spheres on top and it covers an area that is the same size as four football fields.
Munro was inspired by his interest in the things that all people have in common. He got the idea for his latest project when he was travelling in the Red Desert to Uluru in 1992. He felt a strong connection to the energy, heat and brightness of the desert. On his website, he says, “Field of Light is the result of that experience.”
