Sonia Singh lives in Hobart, Tasmania, and she often works on Bratz and Barbie dolls. She does things like taking off their makeup, making their lips and eyes smaller, and creating simpler outfits. Her mom helps by sewing and knitting new clothes for the dolls. Together, they make these fashion dolls look more like everyday people. The goal is to give kids dolls that aren’t all about looking super fancy and glamorous.

The artist, Sonia Singh, got her inspiration from her own simple upbringing. She and her sisters played with used dolls and toys they made themselves while surrounded by the beautiful natural surroundings of Tasmania. She loves the feeling of fixing up and using things that others throw away, giving them a fresh start in life.

On Sonia Singh’s Instagram, people love seeing the before-and-after pictures of her dolls. Many parents especially appreciate her work. One person commented, “I like to think that a girl will hold one of these dolls and think to herself, ‘She looks like me,’ instead of ‘I need to look like her.’ Each one is so unique and beautifully done.” Because of the positive feedback, Sonia now sells her customized dolls on Etsy.

Kids can surprise us with stories about their supposed past lives, leaving us completely amazed. Their families often can’t find a logical explanation for these mysterious tales, so they turn to social media to seek answers.
